BUILDING THE FUTURE AT

SILVIA'S FAMILY DAYCARE

Silvia's is a Large Family Daycare pioneering the field of childcare through our dedication and commitment to the specific needs of every child we are entrusted to provide care for.

Our facility is licensed by the State of California to care for a maximum capacity of twelve children, depending on the ages of the children enrolled at any given time. This smaller setting allows us to prioritize careful focus on each individual child in order to really get to know, teach, and bond with each other.  We do not take the responsibility lightly and prefer the small setting to provide the enhanced attention that allows for a unique educational experience designed to enhance intellectual growth.

We welcome all prospective parents looking to possibly enroll their children for a visit anytime!

Silvia's Family Daycare was founded in 1990 by lead caretaker, Silvia Roldan. Throughout the entirety of its existence, Silvia's Family Daycare has been located in the city of San Francisco delivering the highest quality of childcare to its residents.

Throughout her years working in childcare, Silvia has attained an extensive and thorough background which includes excellent experience ensuring the safety and well-being of young children in her care as a self-employed Certified Home-Based Child Care Provider. Through that background, she has developed a curriculum applied to Silvia's Family Daycare which includes organizing activities, preparing and serving daily homemade meals and snacks, assistance with potty training, keeping toys clean and disinfected, frequent trips to the park and library, sanitizing facilities, and encouraging communal and emotional development of the children under her care.

Additionally, Silvia possesses experience and knowledge in assisting children through separation anxiety—using distraction and refocussing techniques to help kids through the transition of separating from their parents/caregivers—in order to not only help children feel more at home, but also for parents to feel more comfortable leaving their children while they are at work.

Silvia and her staff view childcare as more than just running a quality daycare center but rather the first step in a long journey of growth and education in the life of your little one. With that in mind, we are more than prepared for, and happy to undertake, the responsibility of this task while working side-by-side with parents toward our goal of creating strong bonds and a setting that feels like family.

Silvia's Family Daycare believes that a child undergoes their most formative years of life during their years in daycare before they become of age to enroll in school. We therefore follow an approach to learning that assists the children in developing all of the major assets they will need to tackle their future education head-on when the time comes:

Learning Environment

Our facility provides a classroom learning environment providing us the space and resources to engage the children with projects, reading material, and exercise. Through their experience in an environment such as ours, we believe that we are preparing the children to grow accustomed to what a true classroom will feel like and will assist their learning throughout their years after having been with us.

Positive Reinforcement

Children will often have difficulty accomplishing projects they are assigned. We believe

that through positive reinforcement, we are teaching them that making mistakes is normal and

not to give-up or become frustrated and discouraged. We want the children to enjoy learning, and

positive reinforcement provides the children a fun environment and makes learning something for the children to look forward to.

Quality Interaction

Our daycare emphasizes optimal caretaker interaction with the children. We want to ensure every need the children may have is always taken care of no matter how little or big the request may be. It could be something as small as once of the children feeling hungry and wanting a snack, to something a little bigger such as a child missing his parents while they are at work and needing some affection. We ensure that no matter the size of the class, we always take note that each child receive as much attention and care as we can possibly provide.

Cognitive Development

The highlight of our academic curriculum is our exuberant effort in assisting the children with their cognitive development. Each day we provide projects to the children where they progressively develop their knowledge and understanding of the letters of the alphabet, numbers, colors, and shapes! We want all of the children who attend our daycare to be well-prepared, and at times even be at an advanced level, for preschool and onward. We wholeheartedly believe the responsibility of their initial academic steps lay on our shoulders and we want each of the children to be as successful as possible.

Education through Travel

Every one of our small trips to places such as the Exploratorium, the San Francisco Bay Aquarium, Aquatic Park, or even simply JoeDimaggio Playground offers the children additional resources with which they can learn through observation and exploration. The curiosity of a child perpetually  yearns for more information and visiting different locations broadens their view of the world and introduces them to nature, aquatic life, different weather climates, and whatever else they can take from it. Every one of the places we take the kids is always guaranteed to offer them a learning experience and we make sure to take full advantage of that.

Social Adaptation

Separation Anxiety is the first hurdle many children must overcome to truly adapt socially. We are experienced and prepared for any challenge we face when it comes to this realm and furthermore ensure the children learn to interact both in a classroom setting and whenever we are outdoors. We teach the children skills and abilities as minor cordial manners, such as saying 'please' and 'thank you', to bigger assets such as being confident in their guess to a question our daycare teacher may have for them.

It would take a lot to convince me that you can find a better daycare option in San Francisco. If you are considering Silvia's Daycare, and she has a spot open, you should congratulate yourself for winning the lottery and grab it. We sent both of our boys there and were there for about three years, until we moved away.

I remember having a newborn and not being sure how to evaluate the options, so here is what I would say to other parents in the same spot:

1. Silvia and her team have created a nurturing, homelike environment. The babies have their own floor and get lots of personal attention and love. The space is clean and well lit, and there is a separate quiet nap room that is away from the play space. I don't think you find this in every home daycare.

2. The wonderful thing about this setup is that your children can remain there through preschool (so you don't have to stress your way through that application process). As they get older, they graduate to the "big kid" floor, where they get delicious, healthy, homemade food (you don't have to bring it!) and do lots of fun projects.

3. They do a nice job of building community and celebrating holidays and milestones. Both of our boys got homemade cakes for their birthdays, for example, and we always really enjoyed the holiday party (complete with a visit from Santa). They also came home with gifts for us on Mother's Day and Father's Day.

4. They do a great job of getting the kids outside and building their social/physical skills. The fact that the daycare is across the street from a playground really helps. This gives kids a chance to to interact with other kids that they don't see everyday (along with their friends). I have noticed a social confidence and ability to share/meditate in our boys that I am convinced stems from this experience.

5. The exposure to Spanish is awesome!

6. We loved that our boys went through this experience with a small team of caregivers and a small group of kids. They formed important relationships that helped them to grow in ways we never could have imagined at the beginning.

Above all else - it really felt like a little family and we felt so good every day knowing that they were so loved. If we had to do it over again, we wouldn't change a thing.

We have had a great experience at Silvia's Daycare. As first time parents we were not sure what to expect or even how to pick a good daycare for our son. Its location in our way to the office and the size of the facilities made the decision for us. We were lucky ending up with her. We did not want a place that would teach only discipline or how to follow rules but somewhere which focus on providing affection and confidence to the little ones as well.

Caregivers and the teacher in Silvia's daycare are very sweet. Silvia also cooks yummy food for babies and toddlers. We sometimes need to ask her some tips because my son says the lunch in daycare tastes better than what we cook at home. They provide breakfast and lunch. It's a big help for us who both work. We are also very touched by their understanding smile when we sometimes cannot avoid arriving a bit late after work. They are not like some other daycares charging late-pick-up fee, as we hear from our friends.

Silvia and her staff have created a nice structure and a warming environment where we have seen our son learn and grow. Our son started going there as an infant and once he could walk properly got graduated to the toddlers group. It is a nice setup where toddlers from difference ages play and do activities together. They sometimes have different groups depending on the activity. The small ones learn a lot from the big guys in the group. Over time the small ones become the big ones and they also learn to be patient with the new little ones coming. It was our case because our son stayed there till he was 4. He was lucky to share his life with a very diverse group in age, gender and background. When he got a little brother we were amazed how sweet he treated him from the beginning. He knew he needed to be careful and patient because newborns do not know a lot things. 🙂 That came definitively from Silvia's and their loving environment.

Along the time when he joined the toddlers' group, he learned to do artworks, to read alphabets, to be confident to "show and tell" in front of other kids, He usually tells us many things he loves doing in the daycare and we have been surprised by how much he learned and enjoyed there.

The facility is very near a playground and they send the kids there regularly. They make toddlers wear bright color T-shirt showing details of Silvia's Daycare so it seems they are safer. We always forget the name of the playground because for us it is the "daycare playground". We also make good friends with other parents who send their kids to Silvia's Daycare. Kids play and parents chat, this is what we love to do after work on weekdays. We go there on weekends quite often too because it is our son's favorite place to play and sweat.
